Teenage summer nights in Marbella

by Karen
(UK)

I am bringing 4x 15 year olds to Marbella in the Costabella area in August. What can the boys do in the evening too young to go to night clubs. Are there any good beaches that are lively or have party evenings?

Teenage fun at Funny Beach
by: Marbella Family

Further down the road there is Funny Beach which is open till 11:00pm. The kids can go go-carting, there is an arcade, trampolines, and a beach restaurant Koko Beach right in front of Funny Beach. So they can always have a bite to eat there.

There have been a couple of other questions posted like yours. Take a look at these:

Teenagers in Marbella
by: Marbella Family

There are many parents like you, not sure what to do with their teenagers in Marbella, which has a reputation for a lively nightlife. Marbella is full of discos, clubs, and bars, which cater to adults and are not appropriate for teenagers. As many parents have heard of this reputation they are wary to send out their kids out on their own...for good reason. I personally believe, that parents should take precautions in Marbella just as they would in any other city. There are some places that are safer than others. I would not leave your 15 year-olds on their own in Puerto Banus at night, for example. It is perfectly safe to go with them, but there are some seedy areas (strip clubs, bars, etc.) that will be attractive to them and you never know what kind of trouble they could get in. There was a time that it was perfectly acceptable to leave teenagers at the Port, but from what I have heard lately I would be a bit more prudent.

Unfortunately, Marbella gets bad press with sensationalized news stories. As with any city where there is money, there is crime. However, your personal safety won't be at more risk than as in any other large city or where there is money. The most important thing to keep in mind is to be sensible which is all part of the learning process between teenagers and parents.

A lot of teenagers, as in other countries, like to hang out at the mall. I have friends who leave their teenagers at La Cañada shopping center to see a movie, do a bit of shopping and hang out with friends. It is located about 5-10 minutes from Costabella, so it´s not far. There is plenty to do there and your kids could easily spend three to four hours there. There is a bowling alley, arcade, restaurants, ice cream shop and tons of stores for them to browse around in. In the summer the have extended opening hours, so they could easily spend an evening there. La Canada normally stays open till 10:00pm, however in the summer they probably stay open until 11:00pm (check first!). I know there are movies currently playing in the cinema there that only start at 1:00am, so at least this part of the mall is open till at least 2:30am! Crazy, huh?

If you want to stick close to home then you can check out some of the chiringuitos (beach restaurants) nearby. We really enjoy Ranchon Cubano for lunch, which is not far from Costabella. I hear that they have live Cuban music in the evenings. You may want to go with them first to see what is going on as you never know what kind of crowd there is and I´ve never been there in the evening myself.
