OliveNet Marbella

Hi All

I'm looking to change my internet provider.

I'm currently using Orange, but the speed is so slow and I've seen OliveNet offer Fibre Optic and I'd be grateful if anyone uses OliveNet and if they could share there internet speeds and review of them please or any other good provider.

Thanks

Comments for is OliveNet any good for internet speed in Marbella?

Zero customer service
by: Graham

When the service works it is ok. However, if you have the misfortune to need to speak to Customer Services then you will find they are generally incapable of solving anything. I recently had a billing query with them. Having wasted several hours on the chat line where I was promised responses which never happened I finally found someone who seemed interested in resolving my problem. I emailed all the details to Maryana and then had a responses asking for proof of payment from my bank. Funnily enough it is all on their own billing system ... enough said. Is their internet ok, yes, sadly their billing platform is appalling and their customer services equally bad. Just look at the reviews on Trustpilot, all the recent reviews are 1 star.

I've had Olivenet fibre fpr 5 years, its been great. the speed has increased and the price still the same(29.9 euro/month). Over wifi I get 110 bps each way, which is limited by the wifi design in your laptop/mobile/tv - with a Cat6 cable direct to the Huwai router I got 3 Gig/s three days ago.....The accounts dept is quite reasonable and they speak english among others, which is more than the spanish ones do. You can easily visit their office too.

Terrible Accounts
by: Anonymous

The accounts department is definitely very, very amateurish. And they literally ask you to show bank account statements AND remind them which of their accounts you paid it into if they can't find your payment.
They do however allow you to pause the service over the winter or at anytime given notice.
Saying that I had no Internet for ages, turned out they simply failed to switch back on. No refund. 🤦🏽‍♂️

If you miss a payment they wil not send a reminder but just disconnect your internet without prior warning within 6 days.
They will say that they are not obligated to send payment reminders.
No timeline is given by customer service after sending proof of payment + extra 15 euro charge when the service will be reconnected. The internet works but primitive billing practices and some of the customer service personnel are unfriendly.

Great customer service
by: Steve

Moved from Avatel to Olive Net, great decision. Excellent customer service in English, very responsive and well organised. €60 installation charge is clearly explained and in their literature so don’t understand some of the comments from others unless they he Spanish language service desk is very different. I have even tried to call out of hours and they have called me back without prompting
We have had three engineer visits; installation, a cable fault and a router move. All were quick, efficient and professional.

Olive net racist
by: Patrick

On the website, they show that there is free installation, but when the customer service noticed that I am a student, they charged me 60 euros for the installation. That’s a joke. Why you’re putting extra fees on the student? Students require more time or more effort than the other normal people??? I don’t why they are so racist to the students . What’s wrong with the students ? I have apartment with a contract for more than 2 years so why they are charging 60 euros for students. Please stop being racist and I will take legal action because that’s not acceptable to be racist to the students.

Bad service
by: Anonymous

I had the same problem. Wanted to cancel the contract, because of moving. When I call the support department the girl on the phone told me that it is free and I don't need to pay extra charges about cancellation. Just need to go to the office to sign. I went to the office and the girl there told me that it's ready, but I must pay and next month, because thy had 1 month notice by the contract. At the end...the problem is not about this 19 €, it is about the different information and the way how they cheat customers. In generally....all this 3 years with bad connection. We paid for 100Mb and in the evening the speed was 3, 10mb, we couldn't watch tv. And in the evening you can't report about the problem, because they close at 19:00.

Mad about Olivenet policy
by: Maria Zbate

I've been a s subscriber for three years. When decided to move residence, I went to their office in SanPedro to tell them so. I said I'm not sure whether to renew the contract or to keep it but I was going to let them know in a week. The employee smiled and said: "Alright, see you then", instead of letting me know that in case I terminate the contract I should send them an email five days before the end of the month .... bla, bla, bla. (You know, everything is written at the end of the page with the smallest letter, on old trick every company uses so we don't pay attention to it).
After one week, I went back to them to let them know I want to end the contract; that was like two weeks ago. They said ok, but I will have to pay for the month of Nov.! I said, no way, I already told them I'm not going to use it as I moved out. "-But you did not send the email to us, five days before .....". Be very careful with these robbers, they won't never hesitate to rip your pockets. So, against my will, they will take 25eu out of my account!

IPTV was bad last year , they charged less during that time , thought that was fair but they took several hundered € in retro from my account , many friends having the same experince recently , complaining did not help , pretty rude answers and it feels like a rip off.

Fibre Optic Speeds
by: Anonymous

We have 3 apartments with Olivenet Fibre Optic in Marbella. We find that their speeds are always higher than the speed they are billing us for. One thing to note is that their standard router (in common with most operators) is not able to handle WiFi speeds as high as the wired connections. We deal with that by connecting our own high speed router for WiFi.

Technical support has been excellent.

Be very careful using fibre optic modem telephone system. The router needs power. If burglars cut the power then the link for the alarm to the central response unit is cut. I have been seeking insurance for our house and ALL (7 insurers) said that if the telco system used a router then the house is NOT insured for burglary; fire etc. I use a copper wire landline for the alarm system and fibre optic for WiFi. Excellent Internet service
by: Anonymous

We have 3 separate accounts in properties in Marbella (2 at 500mbs,1 at 50mbs) and we have found the company excellent over a couple of years now in stark contrast to Telefonica and Vodaphone - I cannot speak highly enough of their engineers both on the phone and on site. They are generally English-speaking. We have had only one serious outage which was when they were doing a system upgrade last year and the work took longer than planned. To compensate they permanently increased all client speeds at no ectra cost. In our case from 400 to 500mbs..

A couple of points might be helpful for would-be customers: -

1) The supplied WiFi router is not capable of handling 500mbs so you will need to either cable-connect TVs and Xbox (which is always more reliable anyway) or put in your own gigabit router to obtain the absolute maximum performance. This is the reason why some customers might think they are not receiving the speed they are paying for. They are but not via the WiFi.

2) I recommend that you do not take the available IPTV service. This is expensive and seems to give a lot of problems for users. Look for alternatives.

I've got 100/300mbs Olivenet Fibre and it is very good. No problems except the Router/Fibre modem they supply is limited to 100mbps speed only and I've got Cat 7 cables installed too. Their IPTV is rubbish as per other comments, I use WLIPTV(works on TV and IPADs) and that seems about the best available in the area. You only pay monthly when you need it, c. 250 channels, 525 films and 14 day catchup(this does hang/need restart quite often though), some IPTV channels (e.g. discovery) are obviously throttled and hang too.

For those of you complaining about the Olivenet IPTV service may i recommend that you Google UK IPTV service providers (superior IPTV) are very good. As long as you have an internet connection of at least 10mb you should be able to purchase an IPTV service from the many providers out there. All you need to purchase is a android box from Amazon approx 40 -70euros. Then download the free software ie (STB emu )or (perfect player) to get yourself up and running. IPTV services range from about 8 eur to 12 eur per month or approx 80 euros if you pay for the year. There are plenty of how to install IPTV services on youtube with plain easy steps to follow. Most IPTV service providers offer all the UK and USA channels with hassle free streams. Enjoy

We decided on copper wire for the phone. If router or OliveNet servers go down then you have no alarm coverage and no insurance coverage. Then it just comes down to WiFi provider and TV ... Using VPN and Apple TV/Netflix works well.. OliveNet may have a better service for those who want to switch their WiFi as they don’t live permanently in Marbella. ALL providers have problem customer service interface but with OliveNet you can walk into their offices in San Pedro and thump the desk...

Hello

We've had this for around 3 weeks now (as of March 2018) and have found it to be very good as a service however what they don't tell you is that the router they give is not capable of giving you the 300MB+ so if you are getting it just get the 50mb service unless you have your own very fast router.

Hope that helps,

I second most people here. Fibre direct(100mips) into our new appartment is excellent, with occaisional weekend short outages for upgrades. PC with a LAN cable direct to the router we're getting 85 mips up/download; using WiFi about 27 mips.

Their UK IPTV is simply most of the basic freesat UK HD channels but no subscription ones at all despite this being implied by their web site(I assume they have been threatened by SKY). IPTV does freeze quite often and its worse on their otherwise very useful catch up facility. The picture quality isn't bad though; when not freezing or pixallating. I'd be very interested in any recommended alternative IPTV suppliers.

Broadband only with Olive Net
by: bwdc

I have broadband and generally its okay at best...but I often have very slow speeds..today its 1.5MB download BUT 15MB upload speed as an example. Look its better than most but a long way from being stable. The issue seems to be from their servers to the outside world. If you do a speed test to their server it comes out as 30MB, yet when you change the server to a 3rd party server it comes out as 1-2MB...

Also their servers are often in Eastern Europe (russia and Ukraine?) this creates issues when trying to log into UK banks as they automatically restrict transactions, same with my UK based email service...

So mixed results really. I don't have TV services and don't intend to for same reasons as other posts.

OMIC & SETSI
by: Anonymous

If you have a problem with Internet Providers / telephone companies / telecommunication organisations / etc., submit your reports to one or both of these organisations and request an investigation. At the end of your reports specify precisely what you want as a result of the investigation (can be a number of points):

OMIC (oficina municipal de información al consumidor);
SETSI (Secretaría de Estado de Telecomunicaciones y Sociedad de la Información).

Locate your local OMIC office here:
http://www.consumoresponde.es/con%C3%B3cenos/local%C3%ADzanos/entidad/oficinas_municipales

In "Tipo de entidad", select "Officinas Municipales" and then put in your post code (C.P.
- Codigo Postal), or a nearby post code, and the results will show you the address of your nearest office.

SETSI can be found here:
http://www.usuariosteleco.gob.es/Paginas/Index.aspx

SETSI, Calle del Capitán Haya, 41, 28020 Madrid.
Phone: 913 46 15 00

Generally, Telecommunication services in Spain are in a sad state. Riddled with technical problems and or billing problems.
And little or no sense of genuine client service.

Be sure you keep as much judicial evidence as you can relating to whatever problem you have with your Net Provider / Telecommunication company, and submit COPIES with your reports to OMIC / SETSI (keep all originals in your own possession).

I had a serious problem some years ago with an Internet Provider organisation. Trying to reason with the staff was like trying to negotiate with a group of psychopaths in an asylum. Then they sent a debt collector after me for money I never owed them, and they threatened to put me on some sort of "credit BLACKLIST". It was a surreal and very sick situation... quite a nightmare for some time... but very typical of the way many Net Providers / Telecommunication companies comport themselves here in Spain.
I submitted an 80-page report of every single detail to SETSI. I had even kept recordings of all telephone conversations that I'd had with the staff of the Net Provider in question.
SETSI resolved the problem quite quickly.
In reality, the Net Provider that had caused the problem in the first place should have been obliged to pay me financial compensation for the incredible disturbances they caused to my life. But I understand that this is a trickier sort of judicial affair in Spain than in other countries.

The more people that request investigations from OMIC and SETSI in relation to the problems that Net Providers and Telecommunication companies in general cause in Spain, the better regulated this field should eventually become. Theoretically ;-)

Hope this information is useful and helpful to any of you consumers out there who have been badly treated by any Net Provider / Telecommunications company here in Spain.

Best of luck with all the judicial cases you are all going to submit now to OMIC / SETSI.
I look forward to reading your success stories over the coming months.

Bye, bye!

I see lots of complaints about the Olivenet IPTV service. One needs to distinguish between their (apparently poor) TV service and their excellent fibre optic service.

There are many, many, alternatives for the TV at much lower prices. Do a Google.

My suggestion is simply to drop Olivenet's TV but definitely retain their fibre optic service.

Pathetic Olivenet IPTV and very poor customer relations
by: G Fleming

I have been with Olivenet for several years now and have endured very poor customer support when it was needed. They have a deny deny deny approach until you provide enough evidence for them to admit there is a problem. This is extremely annoying!!! The latest is the IPTV channels freezing and numerous channels dropping off the list (mainly Sky). As usual when this was reported (by wife) there was a denial of any knowledge of problems with the system. When pressed they sent out a technician who continued with the denial and blamed the problems on our HDMI cables (what a joke). So when i called them to ask why we were having the problem it was only then they admitted to having a problem with the channel provider they receive the service from and the issue would be resolved by the end of the month. Guess what ..........no change!

Olive net service

Hi, I have olive net in my apartment and the internet is generally fine however I do know of others in different developments that have issues with internet also.

My main issue is that the tv is very poor. The picture freezes regularly and the quality is very poor for watching movies and sports. This is the UK package. I spoke with Olive net and they are aware of this poor picture and quality of their service which is more annoying. They say they are trying to fix the issue but not good enough as they are still happy to take my monthly payment.

I would try and find a different supplier as I will be doing.

I have had Olivenet for over a year in two apartments in Marbella and I cannot speak highly enough of them. Speed is always exactly as promised (often a little but higher). Regarding service, you really do need to go to their office where the staff are very good.

Note that I only take fibre optic: no telephone and NO TV. Their TV option is very expensive and seems to be subject to many complaints. The basic fibre optic service is great and there are plenty of alternatives for TV.

After canceling the service in April they are still trying to charge my bank account in May and June.

DREADFUL SERVICE
by: Anonymous

Olivenets' dreadful service has continued, despite their letter on this forum dated JUNE 2016 in which they stated they would be glad to improve their service. Instead one year later their service has decreased 100%. They send out messages with excuses for their bad service asking for your reply, that we as customers reply to as it affects us greatly and we receive NOTHING back. In any other country the Government would have closed them down and there would have been hundreds of liability cases to follow. This is probably already reaching that stage.

Loss of Sky channels
by: Anonymous

I am guessing you have had the long winded email Olivenet sent out today, which tells us absolutely nothing! All we want to know is when or if we are going to get the channels we have paid for back! Like you, I would guess Sky have put a block on their transmission. May I ask who else you use in order to get the Sky channels, any info would be very helpful. Thanks.

The reason why SKY channels are missing is because they have obviously been found out and threatened with legal action if they do not stop broadcasting. However, they will not say this but make an excuse that they are making space for ultra high definition (4K) channels etc, but it's strange why only sky channels are the ones missing....I use an identical system with all sports movies and movie club with over 5000 series/films and it never freezes or have loss of channels. I think Olivenet will be losing a lot of customers...

More loss of channels!
by: Anonymous

Yet again problems with Olivenet Iptv. We arrived Thursday night and found we have no Sky sports at all! Phone them yesterday and was told that it was not just us it was all Olivenet customers and they were working on it and it would be up and running shortly! Well guess what it is now Saturday and it is still not working and they don't have any idea when it will be! Not good enough.

Can anyone recommend another provider for iptv and broadband, don't need a landline. Preferably someone cheaper/more flexible and reliable.

Many thanks.

Good internet possible without land line?

Can anyone recommended an internet a service that does not require a land line as we on,y come for holidays and don't want to pay a monthly bill that's not used 7 months a year. We have been renting a system when we arrive but I'd like a system we can leave in the apartment as every time we arrive we have to collect and install.

I am having terrible troubles with Olivenet IPTV system breaking up continuously losing Channels over the last few months
Tuesday crowned it all Sky Sports 4 and 5 were lost
Enough is enough Olivenet you cannot describe your IPTV system as quality TV

When are you going to get a reliable supplier of IPTV

Internet is great, I have been with you since you started. A little upset now, you promised 100mb and billed me for it but you have not switched on the extra 60mb

Please get your act together

The only way to get anywhere with them is go to their office. Tech help will give you a direct number to call but the problems are so frequent I'm wasting so much of my time trying to resolve these
I will probably change to vodafone fiber and use my own IPTV box which works so much better live and on catch up plus I get to watch thousands of movies and box sets

No IPTV Service AGAIN
by: Anonymous

Yet again last night we lost our TV stations and as Andy said it is only UK stations that are affected! Prior to this it kept freezing so much it was almost impossible to watch. Really fed up with this now. Have sent yet another email to them and will try calling them this morning, but most likely will get no where. Need to investigate if we can go with anyone else, not sure if possible as they provide service to our whole community. If anyone can recommend another provider and knows if this is possible we would be grateful.

Unreliable, useless customer service
by: Andy

Fed up with this company, constantly resetting router as no internet signal and IPTV service (UK channels only) not working at all this evening ! As their client base grows this will undoubtably have an affect on the service. This is proved by only UK channels not working as most people watch U.K. TV I'm sure. I cant even connect another provider's IPTV box as the Olivenet routers' port zaps it and wipes the software. Will be cancelling shortly

We have and Olive Net for several years now. Broadband we have found very good and the to is good to a point! It is forever freezing at night, presumably when everyone is watching tv and at times no signal at all! It has been happening more and more frequently which is not good. Customer service is good if you go to their office in San Pedro but on the phone they never call you back! Don't know what other options there are, but would be interested to know.

Olivenet FTH
by: Dr Marcus

We had the fibre installed last year and selected the 20Mb package as this will be sufficient for TV and internet. It has been very good, we use our own IPTV box and also our own router with additional wireless access points to get perfect wifi coverage where we are not connecting by Ethernet.

Until two weeks ago the performance has been faultless. Now there are regular service drop outs, sometimes lasting several hours. IPTV freezes regularly which it didn't used to do.

If you run traces and various tests you will see the service originates in the Czech republic (which is why your search results will often appear with Czech currency as the default) this may explain some of the outages.

However, the technology is far and away better than anything that can be provided by copper wire, wifi link, or satellite especially in terms of value for money. Its new technology and so bounds to have some initial glitches, but fibre into your home in the UK is at least 10 years away!

Daniel at the Riveria office is particularly helpful.

Olivenet FTTH
by: Anonymous

One thing I didn't mention in my recommendation for Olive Net is that they use FTTH - that is to say the fibre connection runs all the way to your router. They do do not depend on an ancient Telefonica copper wire for the last part of the connection. The result is a remarkably stable speed both up and down.

We have used Olivenet for several months with fibre optic connections to two apartments in different buildings in Marbella. We have found every aspect of their service to be first class but, it is true, you do need to go to their office to get things started. After doing that we had our first installation done within 3 days. We did not not take the IPTV offer because it requires the use of a separate set-top box - they do not offer connection directly to a smart TV such as Samsung or LG.

Our contact was Sofia who speaks excellent English and could not have been more helpful (and she does respond, quickly in our experience, to emails).

Frankly, we would strongly recommend them.

Olivenet customer service
by: Anonymous

Hi, we have no issues with the speed of the Internet, it's brilliant, but the customer service is shocking.

We've had issues calling from. U.K. registered phones. So we had to drive to their offices to get out Internet connected because they hadn't responded to the 'activate' emails that we had sent.

I'm now also unable to email them, receive delivery failure messages. I have tried to contact them via their website twice over a 10 day period, and surprise surprise have heard nothing from them.

If Olivenet read this, my customer number is 2197 if you could contact me that would be great.

Has anyone else had problems emailing them over the last couple of weeks? If someone could send a test message to them that would be great!!

Many thanks

Has anyone tried to contact them
Via email recently?

Speed is awesome. Customer service not so good
by: Anonymous

I've been a customer for several weeks, and I must say speed is awesome. It maxes out at 46 Mbps, both down and upstream, which is more than the advertised speed. See for yourself: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5439770046

On the other hand, they need to work hard on improving their customer service and people skills. They seem rather rude when dealing with clients, but maybe it's just that they are introvert. Or perhaps it's just a cultural thing (most of their workers are Russian/Ukranian).

Back on for two days and then last night gone again! We pay 70 euros a month, not good enough. Going in to see them today, going to insist on some refund. Does anyone know if Avatel are any Good? We want Internet, U.K. TV including Sky Sports. If anyone knows what they charge that would be good and can you move to them if Olive net have installed in your community first.

Olivenet - CATV no longer available....
by: Anonymous

Hi, we signed up with olivenet summer last year, and have experienced little problems. We live in the UK and use our Spanish apartment during the school holidays, so it's really handy being able to suspend the service. However, when we was last in Spain we couldn't get the CATV to work. I've emailed them and they've that it is no longer available (we wasn't made aware), but they are still charging me the same amount. They've offered their IPTV package, but having read your comments I'm a little nervous to sign up to this, plus it becomes a little expensive when it's used for only a few weeks each year.

Are there any other fibre providers in marbella?

Many thanks

by: Anonymous

Well, you know the old saying;

"IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT USUALLY IS"

Olivenet have excelled themselves at proving this theory.

We had Olivine put in February 2016. At first it worked very well in respect of the Internet and Telephone. The IPTV side was good initially, then the problems started. Firstly it started the signal started to break up then eventually we lost service for long periods, Eventually the service failed totally.

Contact with Olivine proved fruitless. All that they could advise was to unplug the router and boxes. They stated that they were was a problem with the IPTV and that they were working on it. Two weeks on and they seem to be still working on it!!!

So, over €1,000 spent overall, and with no solution on the horizon we are simply going to cut our losses and seek out another service provider. WE feel sorry for those who have not got the resources to just dump them.

After all the hype that Olivine have put out about their system it turns out to be a total waste of time and money. Feel like we have been totally ripped off by Olivenet.

I've been with olive net since December 2015. Their internet is great.
There iptv channel package has been brilliant with the odd crash.

UNTIL APRIL 2016
We have had no tv for 6 days their whole tv system has crashed and they can't find a problem.
Keep telling us they¡re on it but I don't know what will happen as it's all over Marbella.

My father has lost his tv 2 miles away my brother. Has lost his tv around the corner. And when I went into there place to complain there were loads of people and the phones never stopped ringing with people complaining.

At the moment I would wait and see what happens. I'm in process of looking at other companies as don't know when or if they will sort it and will it happen again.

Hello Sharon,

Sorry to hear that you're having difficulty with the CATV. We spoke to another reader who uses OliveNet and they had no issues when they connected the cable directly from the TV to their router. However, they did say that they had OliveNet install the cable, which required a bit of work to get it right.

Modem seems to have a problem and I called them a couple times, they were rude on the phone saying they would send someone to check it 2 weeks ago and nothing so far. Paid 580€ for the installation and they didn't even finish the job since I also request an Wi-fi extender.

Also if I close the door on my bedroom that is one floor above the Router I get no signal. Yet with Movistar I had no problem.
