On 21st June 2013 from 18.30 to 21.00, the latest exhibition at the Red Penguin Art Gallery will be officially opened and attended by the Vice Mayor of Batumi, Georgia – Natia Surguladze and a Georgian delegation of prominent politicians and business people. Residents and tourists alike are invited to celebrate the opening of this exhibition which features stunning photographs by Marc Lagrange, a selection of works from great masters of Modern Art; the CoBrA group, and rising stars in the contemporary art world showcasing every artistic medium including paintings, sculptures, videos and photography.

"The Beautiful and the Best" exhibition comprises of the "BEAUTIFUL", evocative and sensual photographs of Marc Lagrange, large scale works which celebrate the female form, beauty and pleasure. This Belgian photographer creates luxurious and timeless environments where eroticism and intimacy play a central part and his works have been praised by critics, collected worldwide and been displayed as part of several solo shows and stunning books. As well as being able to enjoy the works, visitors can take away their copy of his new coffee table book Diamonds and Pearls featuring his new collection of photographs in stunning quality.

Set beside these striking images will be the "BEST" works from great masters of Modern Art; the CoBrA group. This avant-garde art movement took inspiration from primitive art forms, children’s drawings and the works of Paul Klee and Joan Miró and used spontaneous and experimental methods to produce highly original and acclaimed works.
Although only working as a group from 1948-1951, this group of artists put on two large scale exhibitions and their works have become increasingly desirable and valuable with passing years, some fetching €1 million at auction.

The Red Penguin Art Gallery has secured a selection of masterpieces by artists Karel Appel, Corneille and Walasse Ting from the Meulensteen Art Collection of the Danubiana/Meulensteen Contemporary Museum in Bratislava, a big achievement for the gallery’s Director of Art Consultancy Loni Olfers. She explains; “I am honoured to have been able to secure this collection and bring it to Marbella. Combining so many high value, museum-quality pieces with affordable art in the gallery is something I am really passionate about and I look forward to sharing it with Marbella’s residents and tourists.”

In addition to these modern art masterpieces, contemporary art will be showcased from the latest generation of emerging stars and established artists such as; Lita Cabellut, Isabell Beyel, Joseph Klibansky and others.

Special guest artists from Georgia have also been invited to display their art as part of the exhibition to strengthen the relationship between the Batumi Art Festival and the Internaciónal Festival de Arte Marbella which takes place from June 20 - 23 in Marbella’s Avenida del Mar. This follows the highly successful Masterclass which Loni Olfers delivered last year and lectures planned for later this year. Featured artists from Georgia are: Natia Surguladze, Lasha Makharadze and Badri Kokaia and they will be present during the opening to personally introduce their art.
