You may well ask, why I have waited nearly three months to write about a New Years Day Lunch at El Oceano restaurant.

The answer is that they were closing for three months shortly after the lunch and I thought it more appropriate to write about it it shortly before they re-open for their Spring season on Thursday, April 2nd.

We were a party of eight, having just spent a delightful evening, beachside in San Pedro de Alcantara at Nuevo Reino where we saw the New Year in.

El Oceano is one of those idyllic Hotel/Restaurants practically right on the beach with two main dining area seating some two hundred diners.

It was ‘full house’ for a sumptuous table d’hôte meal that Paul Tugwell had created, and it was very well received. The entertainment was a cut above the norm, with flamboyant Violinist, Enrique Navaro leading a small ensemble with a delightful vocalist and a ‘close-up magician, Allen Mansel, going from table to table performing the most amazing card tricks and illusions, that were ‘simply were not possible!

The attention to detail, comfortable surroundings, tasteful food and pleasant company, made this a lunch to remember.

The Stats:

El Oceana is on Miraflores Playa, Mijas Costa, by car you must approach from the east, and there is little warning of the entry slip road.
