Business Development Manager,
Driver Provider NW Ltd t/a Fahy Freight, Skelmersdale
(June 2008 to Present)
My current role is a demonstration of many skills required to ensure the steady growth of a transport and logistics company.
My primary function is the acquisition and development of new business and the development of a 'freight forwarding' division. This has led to a reduction in core fleet and consequently a reduction in company overheads leading to increased profits and a steady increase in turnover. I also oversee all day to day activities, from planning the core fleet, outsourcing work to external haulier partners and the servicing and maintenance of company vehicles (semi-trailers). I am also responsible for hitting company targets financially on a weekly basis and oversee all client and partner relations.
I generate on average circa £35,000 per week revenue in sales (outsourced loads) with an average mark-up of 20% per sale. This is still on the increase since I have acquired a large blue-chip contract that has the potential to add £10,000 weekly as it develops.
I also have extensive experience in the daily planning of 30 articulated vehicles ensuring Client KPI’s are met by means of on time deliveries. This also involves acquisition of backhauls for each vehicle.
Key achievements from the outset of joining the company include:
- Winning several high profile clients in the first few weeks of employment.
- Aiding in the introduction of new and modernised IT systems giving the company a faster and more efficient way of operation. For example database linked mail shots.
- Bringing the company into healthy profit in a poor and unstable economic climate.
- National recognition from major blue chip Haulage companies through reputation, outsourcing work to them daily.
- Design and development of the company website in conjunction with a Web development company.
Other minor roles include maintenance of I.T systems, repairs to equipment and networks.
Wilde Recruitment Ltd, Stockport
(July 2006 to June 2008)
This role integrated my skills as a competent recruiter and my interest in Engineering and Technology. Appointed initially as a trainee consultant, for the Process engineering sector
I was given intense training and insight into modern sales techniques and resourcing methods. I also developed knowledge of various UK and overseas projects predominantly in the Petrochemical, Oil & Gas and Nuclear sectors.
I started a cold desk focusing on Process Piping Design and Engineering, along with Mechanical and Controls & Instrumentation at a later stage. I elected this area of engineering as it relates to my studies at University so my interest in the subject stoked a passion and eagerness to develop the role.
Acquisition of new clients throughout the UK and overseas became an integral part of my role. Within the first year, steady growth of my desk, led to the appointment of a resourcer whom I managed daily to network existing candidates and constantly update all forms of advertising media for the acquisition of new CV’s. At this point the Mechanical Process desk was well established within the engineering community. During this period my knowledge of current and forthcoming
Projects in the Petrochemical, nuclear and renewable sectors led to me leading weekly team meetings with other colleagues to progressively expand the company as a collective team.
Based on an average of 7% on contractors, after year one my average weekly profit generated was circa £3150.00 this steadily increased over the following 12 months.
I also used my skills to fill permanent vacancies for niche projects, such as Chief Electrical Engineers. The average profit for such a placement was circa £5500.00 based on 10% mark up.
As well as acquiring new business on an ongoing basis I notably gained a very large client towards the end of my time at this company - Alstom power in Baden Switzerland. This generated a wealth of opportunity for the company and led to healthy growth despite the onset of economic downturn.
Recruitment Consultant/ Transport Manager
Driver Provider Ltd, Skelmersdale
(May 2005 to June 2006)
My initial role within the business was a trainee recruitment consultant for the industrial driving sector. This involved recruiting and placing HGV drivers of various classes, into temporary positions for a wide range of clients. My keen attitude and eagerness to learn during these early stages, quickly led to me servicing warm clients and regularly holding service meetings. My natural ability to network and identify opportunities within existing clients created new business for my (at the time) more experienced colleagues to develop. Because of my inquisitive nature and ability to form good working relationships within the team, I quickly developed ability and confidence to approach new business from observing my fellow colleagues and indeed training I received.
This particular role developed further as the business diversified into a small Transport operation alongside the recruitment business. I was appointed Transport Manager and this followed my acquisition of a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
