State schooling - My kids do not speak Spanish

by Michelle
(Australia )

We are Australian moving to marbella in 4 months time. my daughters are 7 years & 11 years old.

They do not speak Spanish and I cannot afford €4300 per term British private school fees. Has anyone been in this situation? Will my daughters learn Spanish quickly? Or struggle with school learning and hate me?
Or can anyone give me advice as to a cheaper school that teaches in English?
Many thanks

the quickest way to learn is by doing
by: Sandie

depending what state school you use a lot of them teach in dual languages, I do a homework club for little Spanish children that are being taught Science in English & are finding it difficult, the only way to learn is to be in a Spanish school, get extra Spanish lessons after school for them, there are plenty of places to choose from, before you come get them doing an hour of Rossetta Stone, or Spanish course where you are now, you may also find you will have to wait to get the children into school, not all school have places straight away.
A home tutor will charge you around 10 euro an hour.

We are two native Spanish teachers for foreigners with many years of teaching experience in the Costa del Sol.

We hold a PhD Certificate of Research Proficiency in Spanish Contemporary Literature and Comunication, Degree on Spanish Language and Literature and CAP (equivalent to the British QTS) from the University of Málaga, and have undertaken several courses focused on teaching Spanish as a foreign language.

We offer individual and group lessons at any level. Although we have our own private stablishment, we can also teach you at home wherever you live from Málaga to Gibraltar.

If you want to take your first steps in Spanish, improve your level or simply practice your speaking skills, do not hesitate to contact us.

Beside that, we provide both Spanish GCSE and A-Level private tuition.

Unfortunately all British schools are over rated and overpriced. As far as I know you will be given an extra after school hours for your children for Spanish lessons at no cost. They will learn the language eventually. If they were younger would be much easier, but this would all depends on personal abilities. Good Luck!
