Marbella Family Lifestyle

Hi,

We are a family with 2 kids of 5 and 8 years old planning to move to Marbella in August. Can you pls advise me the best area to live in with the kids. I mean the area where we have a short walking distance to a good public Spanish school for 5 and 8 yo and also sports activities for the children. My daughter needs gymnasia-ritmica and my son needs a swimming pool (he is in a professional swimming club) and football.

We live in Communidad Valenciana (Calpe) at the moment. We have been living in Spain for 1 year and 2 months now and are very happy with everything here in Costa Blanca apart from one important thing - the public schools here implement more and more Valenciana (local language) lessons. Science, biology, geography - all is in Valenciana. And since we don't plan to stay in Spain for ever, I want the children to study only in castellana. Therefore we consider a move to Marbella for the coming school year.

I would be very grateful if someone could advise me what would be the best area with the kids considering my above specifications. Also if someone knows an apartment / house for a long-term rent there I'll be very happy to hear from you. Or we might rent in the beginning and buy something later.

Thank you very much in advance.

San Pedro
by: Anonymous

I would recommend San Pedro (de Alacántara). We have been here with 8 and 4 year old and it's perfect - parks, playgrounds, free events, promenade, sea, montain view.
For swimming there is a public "polideportivo" - haven't visited it yet, but have heard this is quite ok and cheap.
We do not have experiences with public schools here, but I know there are some.
Hard part is to find a good apartment or house for rent here in the center and at beach side they are very expensive.
