Weekend family fitness

by Emanuel Poggio
(San Pedro de Alcantara)

Emanuel (Manu) Poggio, a qualified fitness instructor, and his team are leading a group of parents and their children in fun weekend family fitness days on the beach every Saturday. The first one-hour session will start this Saturday February 19 at 10:00am. The group meets at the beach bar La Pesquera San Pedro de Alcantara on the San Pedro boardwalk dressed in comfortable sports gear.

The focus this Saturday will be on functional training to get parents and kids to cooperate as well as challenge each other in various exercises. Functional training is a system which trains muscle chains that are used in day to day activities. Wikipedia defines functional training : "Functional training has its origins in rehabilitation. Physical therapists developed exercises that mimicked what patients did at home or work in order to return to their lives or jobs after an injury or surgery. Thus if a patient's job required repeatedly heavy lifting, rehabilitation would be targeted towards heavy lifting, if the patient were a parent of young children, it would be targeted towards moderate lifting and endurance, and if the patient were a marathon runner, training would be targeted towards re-building endurance."

The exercises that involve functional training are usually polyarticular and involve large neuromuscular activation and recruitment of more muscles, more work-articular muscle and therefore more results !

There is no requirement to be physically fit or not. We will work in teams with large variables from class to class according to all types of physical conditions. We will tailer each group to a particular case (children, adolescents and adults in good physical condition or not) and of course it's fun!

SuperMan(u)
by: Amanda

I met Manu when I was training at Platinum gyn, he was a trainer there. We formed a solid friendship after sharing our passion for mountains and challenges. When he decided to take a leap of faith and set up his own studio I was delighted. I knew no one would get the benefits, knowledge, experience and personal attention anywhere else. No one has tried him and not been back, he is simply fantastic. Incredibly qualified, incredibly humble, and incredibly human. Manu has everything and more you'd require from a trainer and friend.

His beach front group classes is just another example of his innovative and fun ways of training. Family is incredibly important to Manu, so being able to get parents and kids to train together in such beautiful surroundings is extremely fulfilling, not only to him but to those participating. I highly recommend you try one, you'll be hooked. You'll start the weekend on great footing, you'll have spent quality time with your kids and believe me, you'll have a fair few things to giggle about over dinner!!

Getting fit in Marbella
by: Marbella Family

We train regularly with Emanuel and absolutely love him. So, naturally, when he came up with this idea of the family spending time on the beach getting fit we jumped at the opportunity and are happy to announce the good news to all of our friends.

Manu is a fabulous instructor that is very highly qualified and "knows his stuff" about health and fitness. He´s such a nice guy and my kids really like him too. We can´t wait to try this fun family day with him.
