We are planning on going to Sierra Nevada between Xmas & New Year (our 1st time)... Do you know if there is anywhere to hire ski clothing up there? We have nothing! Or where we could buy some on the Costa del Sol? maybe 2nd hand? Don't want to be spending a fortune... Also would appreciate any advice on where to stay o...nce there & any other advice pls!! Thanks! :-)

Renting clothes in Sierra Nevada Spain
by: Marbella Family

Evidently it´s not easy to find clothes in Sierra Nevada. Ski hire is everywhere, but clothing is not as easy. You can rent ski clothes at reasonable prices at Melia Sol y Nieve shopping gallery in the Plaza de Pradollano directly on the corner overlooking the lift pass office and the Plaza de Andalucía.

Ski clothing hire rates per day (2008):

All-in-One Ski Suit - 2 euros
Ski Jacket - 6 euros
Salopettes, (Ski Trousers) - 9 euros
Gloves / Glasses - 3 euros
Child "All-in-One" Suit - 10 euros

The other option is to buy some cheap clothes at Alcampo in La Cañada shopping center in Marbella. I´ve purchased some really reasonably priced ski clothing there and it´s been fine. My son´s ski pants were only 10 euros. We aren´t big skiers and I knew my kids would grow out of them, so it would last for only one trip of only a few days. Also, try El Corte Ingles. They have some cheaper brands at reasonable prices. Not as low as Alcampo, but probably better quality.

As for lodging, we stayed at the Melia Sierra Nevada and were happy there. The rooms aren´t huge, but it was clean and the service was good. If I remember it was around 250 - 300 euros a night (it was high season). The location was really good though and that´s what we were looking for.
