Great Bustards by S.Powell

The Andalucía Bird Society has a field trip on Saturday 20th February to Osuna to see the Great Bustards. Everyone is welcome to attend.

These birds are the largest flying bird in Europe. They look somewhat like a turkey and are found in few places but we are lucky enough to have them here in Andalucía.

The area around Osuna consists of steppe, rich in farms and their associated birdlife. There are also many lakes in the area which this year are very small with little water due to the lack of rain. The main species to be found will be raptors and steppe birds and some water birds on the Lagunas. These include Black and Red Kite, Buzzard, Harrier, Partridge, Stone Curlew and not forgetting Great Bustard.
Anyone interested in going should contact the Field Meetings Officer on 652 552 956.

The Andalucía Bird Society is a not-for-profit group of bird watchers (visitors and residents) based in Andalucía. It holds monthly field trips for its members and hosts an informative website for the advancement of birding knowledge. Membership is open to all interested parties and all levels of experience are most welcome. For more details please contact the membership secretary on 669 649 529 or simply email us on: abs.sociedad@gmail.com. Check out the website at: www.andaluciabirdsociety.org
