the approach to Valparaiso

One of the first eateries that would come to mind if you want to commemorate an occasion must be Valparaiso, and indeed we have been dining there for 28 of the 33 years that brother’s Raffaele and Vittorio Morelli have been open.

The dining area consists of a main room and 5 connected satellite rooms, with a dance floor come stage for the wide variety of quality entertainment that they are renowned for.

After a recent renovation it seemed to be a little less celebratory somehow. During the summer months dining on the grand terrace is just magic!

Our waiter Diego seems to have been there for ever, and Alexander, one of the next generation of Morelli’s has joined the team.

In their normal menu you will find all the dishes that one would expect to find in Italian cuisine but the Sunday lunch menu is more of a traditional one with Roast Beef and all the trimmings being one of the options from the half dozen mains. For starters we chose Duck and Partridge Pate and Guliana salad that is billed as ‘the best salad you will ever have’, followed by Sea Bass and Langoustines in a Champagne sauce, and the Roast Beef, all of which were delicious, but If I’m being picky I must say that I like my roast potatoes to be crispier than those served. We finish the meal by sharing an Apple Crumble.

It pains me to mention the unacceptable chipped plates that were served to us for one of the mains and for the dessert. This should never happen in any establishment. I only hope the brothers will forgive me for raising it here. It certainly will not stop us returning to one of the most joyous eating houses on the coast,

The VS: Valparaiso can be found at Km. 14 on the Mijas road (take care on the left turn into their drive) Adequate on site parking. They open for dinners Monday to Saturday and for Sunday Lunch. Beside the A la cart they have a 21.50€ two coarse and 25.50 € three coarse menu. Average 3 course A la cart with wine 40€
