I was wondering whether the price of properties in Marbella have decreased a lot as a result of the financial crisis. I also understand that the legal situation is better now. Is it a good time to buy? Can you recommend a reliable real estate agent?

Real estate has been one of the main economic engines of Marbella until two years ago. An important corruption scandal and the financial crisis have put this sector on hold. There have been some foreclosures, but apparently not as many as in other places. Prices have decreased but not dramatically, especially on desirable properties.

There has been a major shift in the real estate agency sector with many agents closing their activity. Most pundits think the market is bottoming, especially now that a new city plan has been approved by the Junta de Andalucia. We are not expert in this domain, but can point you to the excellent and down-to-earth Andalucia Market Report written by Barbara Wood, a reputed professional operating on the Costa del Sol for a long time.
