Hi everyone,

We have taken the decision to move to Marbella area in September this year, our daughter is due to start school in September and I suddenly panicked feeling now or never our son is 3.

I have reserved space at Laude San Pedro, we are flying over on Monday to view and look at properties.

I know you all probably get asked the same things all the time, I've lived abroad most my life but never since having my children. I suppose the main thing for me is...do you find there is enough to do over winter, we like the idea of coming in September because if we love it in winter we are bound to love it in summer.

Do you find many of the friends your children meet leave Spain? I think this is my main concern although I hardly know any friends from school.

We are still looking for a long term rental, there seems to be a lot available, but if anybody knows people renting out any villa's.

I suppose I am just after people's thoughts also, as a slight worried Mum :)

Moving to Marbella - congratulations!

Hello Jayne,

Congratulations on your decision to move your family to Marbella! It's an amazing place and children can enjoy a truly unique experience growing up here. In recent years, more and more families have chosen to settle here and the local market has responded with more and more opportunities year round.

Regarding your question about winter activities, the answer is a resounding "YES"! In fact, it's one of the hidden secrets about living in Marbella and the Costa del Sol - you have access to so many things to do year round. And because the Costa del Sol is home to several hundred thousand full-time international families, you'll find that virtually everything is open here.

About the transient nature of international families here, our observation is that the Costa del Sol actually has less turnover than other expatriate communities in Europe and Asia. Many of the families that live here are working in other parts of Europe and have made the decision to choose Marbella for the lifestyle. That's quite a bit different than an expatriate family that moves to a country for a temporary 3-year assignment and then moves on.

Like all moves, it takes time to get integrated. The school community and portals like this offer you a great way to connect with others that have the same interests. If there's anything we can do to make your transition to the Costa del Sol more pleasant, post your questions to this site anytime. We'll share your feedback with the community so you can leverage the experience of thousands of other families here.

To find any topic related to Marbella or the Costa del Sol, simply visit any page on our website and enter what you are looking for in the search field where it says "What are you looking for?"

You'll receive a complete list of pages on our site which address your specific topic of interest. These include all the comments that thousands of families in Marbella and the Costa del Sol have placed on our portal.

If we can be of any other assistance, please let us know.

Have Fun!
