Internet Service Marbella

(France)

Hello! My wife emailed you last week about the fact that we will be moving to Marbella for the next few months. Thanks very much for your helpful website.

Can you tell me which company you use for internet service? The people who own the home that we are staying in will 'reactivate' the account... I just need to tell them what speed to ask for. Do you happen to know what speeds are generally available and an idea of how much they cost? We generally do not watch television, so that is not necessary... and we use Vonage VOIP service for most calls.... so all we really need is internet service.

Again, thanks for providing such great info!

Internet speed near Marbella
by: Anonymous

Next to Puerto Banús we have the Globatel ISP. They provided the connection next day but their reliability has ben very low. During many weekends their connection is down and they cannot be reached! They promise 3 Mbit/s but the very best ever has been 2.4 Mbit/s and often the speed is only half of that. This business really stings - you pay foe 3 and you get 1.5 In any other business this would be consideres s fraud!

Bandwidth depends on your location. Downtown Marbella you can get up to 8-10Mbps. Telefonica is expnsive but OK.

Ok... that is very helpful.... about the same price (a little higher) and speeds as here in France. Thank you!

Internet speed Marbella
by: Marbella Family

Andrew,

Not taking into account non-standard solutions for remote areas, in Spain, you need a telephone line to access internet. There is only one company that can set up the telephone line, that is Telefonica. Then you can get your internet service from Telefonica or another company (ya.com, Orange...). Customer service from all of them seems about the same, i.e. quite poor. So don´t get your expectations too high.

We personally use Telefonica. They offer a service called Duo that includes phone and internet for about 45 euros. They technically offer broadband speed of 1, 3, 6 or 10 Mb/s but the reality is that you rarely get the full speed promised unless you are very close to the exchange. For example, we contracted the service for 6Mb/s but rarely get more than 4.5Mb/s.

Good luck on your move.
