Feria San Pedro de Alcantara Fair

The Feria de San Pedro de Alcantara, or the San Pedro fair, is held every year in October. This year the fair is from Monday October 17 until Sunday October 23. This is a time when the city dresses itself up with lights, fireworks, song and dance to celebrate the Patron Saint of San Pedro.

If you haven´t visited a fair in Spain before, then this is a good chance to participate in the local culture. The fair is a time when people dress up in their finest. You will see women and children donning their flamenco style dresses with flowers in their hair of every color, shape and size. Locals dance to the tunes of flamenco music while sipping wine and enjoying tapas which are sold in stalls along the streets.

A parade will be held throughout the streets bringing the Patron Saint to the people. Activities and games will be held for the kids, exhibitions, senior activities, and fireworks also take place throughout the day. At night, the fairgrounds light up and the real excitement for the city youth starts. Attractions, fair games, and fair food entice everyone to come out of their homes and have a good time. MONDAY OCTOBER 17

14:30 Fireworks display and bell ringing on Plaza de la Iglesia opening the San Pedro festivities.

18:00 Carnival of Gigantes and Cabezudos. These are gigantic puppet like heads and figures that are paraded through the streets.

21:00 Raising of the flags and opening festival speeches at Plaza de la Iglesia.

Soon after - Coronation of ribbons to the 2011 Reinas y Damas (Queens and Ladies) of the San Pedro Fair.

Soon after - Illumination of the fairgrounds and fireworks display at fairground entrance

22:00 Dancing at the Caseta Municipal (Municipal Tent) with orchestra music by Velada



TUESDAY OCTOBER 18

12:00 Fireworks display

13:00 Inauguration of the Day Fair at Plaza de la Iglesia.

14:00 Inauguration of "My Home" tent for senior citizens on Calle Dependiente.

16:00 - 19:00 Dance performances by various Dance Academy on Plaza del la Iglesia.

20:00 School performances in the Municipal Tent

22:00 Caseta de Juventud (Youth tent) opens.

22:00 Dancing at the Caseta Municipal (Municipal Tent) with orchestra music by Velada

23:00 DJ plays and performance by LANGUI at the Caseta de Juventud



WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 19

9:00 Eucharist at the San Pedro parish church

11:00 Mass at San Pedro church in honor of San Pedro patron saint.
