Feast of San Martin

The Feast of San Martin, also known as Día de San Martin or La Matanza (literally The Killing), takes place every year on November 11th. This celebration involves the slaughtering of pigs so that they are dried to make ham, black pudding and sausage to sustain the villagers throughout the winter.

This holiday takes place in the villages and mountainous areas of Andalusia and involves plenty of food and drink. Although considered a festive holiday among the locals, it is known to involve a lot of blood and animal slaughter, so you may have to think twice if you are taking the kids.
