Costa del Sol birth experiences

by Naomi
(Marbella)

Wondering if anyone can share any birth experiences at the Costa del Sol Hospital or USP (now Quiron) or St Bernards in Gibraltar. I am needing help deciding where to have my baby! I want a natural birth, without interventions if possible. Thanks!

Costa del Sol Hospital

I had my little one at Costa del Sol hospital and thought they were brilliant, really kind and caring, keen on putting the bonding between you and baby really high up the list of priorities and although we spoke with them in Spanish, we got the feeling that they were all able to speak enough English to get by.

I think if you want something a bit more alternative they might not be as open as English hospitals and you do have to stay in for at least 24 hours after giving birth, but they do look after you well.

Best of luck!

Quiron hospital Marbella
by: Brenda

Don´t go to Quirón! I too was looking for a natural birth experience and made a bad decision by going to Quirón. The staff was not at all conducive to that type of experience.

I spoke to the head OBGYN beforehand and market and he told me they have a "progressive and natural" mentality but it I found it to be not like that at all. I had given them a birth plan and everything but it was useless.

Post labor was also a disaster. They mistakenly put me on a wrong floor and I didn´t receive any post partum care. Fortunately it was my third so I knew what to expect but I would never recommend a first time mom go there. Go to Costa del Sol hospital. I wish I had!

Hospital Costa del Sol review
by: Craig

My wife had both of our kids at the Costa del Sol hospital.

Our cousin had her kid at the USP in Marbella and looks a bit fancy but nothing wrong with the free hospital at all.

Costa del Sol Hospital reviews

As a medical doctor and a mom I would recommend Hospital Costa Del Sol. I had my son there, good experience, great team, and also the safest choice for your baby. Remember that if something should happend to your little one, the specialist in neonatology is on guard in Hospital Costa del Sol, not in Quiron or in St Bernards!!!!! Best of luck

USP hospital Marbella
by: Helen

I had c section at USP and fab. Have been advised for baby no. 2 to go with USP however if any major complications then Costa del Sol are better equiped.

Another option that has been highly recommended is Hospiten in Estepona, but I don't have personal experience there.

Good girl for researching, but we are all unique. I would suggest visiting the options in advance and following your gut feel.

Best of luck and lots of happiness xx

natural birth statistics Costa del Sol
by: Anne

If Naomi wants a natural birth statistics will prove midwifery led care will give her the best chance of this. It is the norm at HCS, St Bernards & Hospiten.

Midwives care for women all the way through labour unless there is a problem. Paediatricians and Obstetricians are on call 24/7 in HCS if they are needed-not the case everywhere.

To have all your questions answered come to our INDEPENDENT antenatal classes! Wishing Naomi all the best

Hospital Costa del Sol
by: Colleen

I would say Hospital Costa del Sol - been there twice and both times fantastic - Very much into natural births. Plus if anything is wrong (touch wood everything goes well) but it's worth knowing that most hospitals sends the babies to Costa del Sol and any early babies the USP don't handle.

Contact Anne Halpenny a midwife here for more info - She has a fb page - Irish Midwife too. Good luck

Costa del Sol hospital

Costa del Sol are fabulous, they have protocols in place for very natural births and they are worth reading in advance so you know what they will and won't let you do.

You can also submit and have your birth wishes approved in advance. Of course, it doesn't always go the way you hope but that is a great way to get your wishes known good luck!
