* Parking meters and fines

One of our readers has a question and asks, ”I am selling my car and it has come up that I have an outstanding fine to pay from 2008.”

First of all, be sure you are parking in designated parking zones when you park your car, i.e. public parking lots and curbs painted blue where you will find a parking meter nearby. Most curbside parking meters are free on holidays. You will also find free parking Monday to Friday 2:00-4:00 and 8:00pm to 9:00am. Free on Saturdays after 2:00pm and all day on Sundays.

Otherwise, you just stick your coins in the meter and the time that the ticket expires will appear on the screen in front of you. Keep putting money in until the time you desire appears. Then press the green button (OK) and the ticket will pop out at the bottom of the meter. Place this piece of paper on the car dashboard so that the meter checkers can see the time. If you find a ticket from the police (if you have gone overtime), check first if you can pay a fine (usually 3 euro) in the meter. You get about 30 minutes slack.

There are several ways to pay parking fines, so if you get caught with one of these presents, take a look at this page. Click here to read more…
