* Virgen del Carmen Festival

Towns along the coast will be holding celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint of fishermen and the sea, the Virgen del Carmen. The official day is July 16, but celebrations are often held before and after the day. The main event is a procession, which in many coastal towns takes the image of the Virgin out to sea on a boat.
