The 8th Alora soup festival 2010 also known as Día de las Sopas Perotas will be taking place this year on Saturday October 2 starting at 12:00pm. Perota soup is named after the locals of Alora who are called Perotas.

This date is one of the most important in the gastronomical and cultural calendar of Malaga. This day commemorates the work made by so many laboring each day in the fields in the not so distant past. The workers who spent the whole day in the countryside would make Sopa Perota often which is a quick, easy and economical way to re-energize your body to keep going through the rest of the day.

The event will take place at Plaza Baja de la Despedía which will include free tastings of sopa perota as well as other local delicacies. Around 7,000 bowls of this hearty vegetable soup will be served on the day along with locally grown manzanilla olives. There will be plenty of entertainment throughout the day as well as a market with local food and crafts. There will even be children´s activities.

Alora can be reached by train or bus from Málaga as well as from other cities on the Costa del Sol. If you come by the C2 or C1 cercania train from Malaga or Fuengirola you can by a roundtrip ticket which also includes a bus service from the station in Alora to the festival and back. If you are coming by car, there is parking at the entrance to the city with free buses that will take you to the historical center.
